IFC Q4 2026 Newsletter: Advancing Firestop Education, Industry Partnerships, and Building Safety

The International Firestop Council (IFC) has released its Q4 2026 Newsletter, highlighting a year of meaningful progress in firestop education, special inspector training, industry collaboration, and technical resources supporting building and fire safety professionals.

As 2026 enters its final quarter, IFC continues its mission to promote fire and smoke containment in building construction through research, education, safety standards, testing, and code provisions. This latest newsletter provides an overview of recent accomplishments, new partnerships, upcoming educational opportunities, and important industry developments.

Whether you are a building official, fire marshal, design professional, special inspector, or firestop industry stakeholder, the Q4 newsletter offers valuable information to help you stay informed and connected.

Expanding Firestop Education for Code Officials

Education remains a cornerstone of IFC’s work. Throughout 2026, IFC has continued expanding its Firestop Inspection and Plan Review Training for Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), reaching hundreds of building and fire code officials nationwide.

These educational programs help code officials better understand firestop systems, recognize common installation deficiencies, evaluate construction documents, and verify compliance with applicable building and fire safety codes.

IFC continues to offer free, in-person AHJ seminars in two-, four-, and eight-hour formats, providing jurisdictions with opportunities to strengthen their knowledge of firestop inspection and plan review requirements.

Successful Firestop Special Inspector Training in Palm Beach

One of the highlights of the third quarter was IFC’s Firestop Special Inspector and Manufacturer Product Training program held in Palm Beach, Florida.

The event brought together more than 30 participants and representatives from five firestop manufacturers for comprehensive technical education and practical product training.

Participants received instruction addressing firestop systems, inspection procedures, installation requirements, and common field challenges. The combination of independent technical education and manufacturer-supported product demonstrations provided attendees with valuable insight into the systems and materials they may encounter during field inspections.

Building on the success of this event, IFC looks forward to expanding similar training opportunities in 2027.

New Partnership with the Tennessee Fire Marshals Association

IFC is pleased to announce its new relationship as a Sponsoring Partner of the recently established Tennessee Fire Marshals Association (TFMA).

This partnership represents an important opportunity to expand firestop education, strengthen relationships with fire marshals and code officials, and promote awareness of proper firestop inspection practices throughout Tennessee.

IFC also congratulates Lance Sutton, IFC Regional Firestop Training Coordinator for Tennessee, on his appointment as Chair of TFMA’s Training & Education Committee.

Through this partnership and Lance’s leadership, IFC looks forward to supporting additional educational opportunities for Tennessee’s fire prevention and code enforcement community.

Code officials interested in requesting free AHJ firestop training in Tennessee may contact Lance at Lance@Firestop.org.

Industry Engagement and Recent Developments

The Q4 newsletter also features several important industry updates and educational activities, including:

In addition, IFC’s recent Fall Membership Meeting in Ohio provided members and industry stakeholders with opportunities to exchange technical knowledge, strengthen professional relationships, and establish priorities for the coming year.

Looking Ahead to 2027

As IFC prepares for 2027, expanding educational outreach and supporting effective firestop inspection practices remain important priorities.

Upcoming activities highlighted in the newsletter include Educode International, IFC’s Spring and Fall Board Meetings, the 2027 ICC Conference and Expo in Reno, Nevada, and continued opportunities for AHJ training.

Through these initiatives, IFC will continue working with its members, industry partners, code officials, and inspection professionals to advance technical knowledge, support code compliance, and promote safer buildings.
