Prepare for the exam
Take the Firestop Inspector Exam

To pass, achieve a score of 80% or better. After passing the exam, the exam-taker will be provided with a Certificate of Achievement to document exam success! Candidates who obtain a passing grade and certificate will be listed at our Certificate Holders Directory.

Take the IFC Firestop Product Training Course

Take the IFC Firestop 204: Firestop Multi-Manufacturer Product Familiarization course. This will upgrade the Certificate of Achievement to a Premier Certificate.

Your Certificate

Submit your exam certificate and product training certificate and you will be established as a Premier Certificate holder on the Certificate Holders webpage.

Renewal

If you wish to renew Premier Certificate, you will need to receive IFC product training, updating you on the industry’s latest products. Although in-person, hands-on training is preferred, the training can also be via electronic channels (e.g. web conferencing).  Each product training certificate is good for one certification period. New product training is required for each Premier Certificate renewal.

  • Note 1: The premier level certificate holders have successfully completed the International Firestop Council’s Third-Party inspector examination and additionally completed a minimum of 4 hours of installation product training from the IFC.
  • Note 2: Based on the exam results, it is the opinion of the International Firestop Council that certificate holders and Premier certificate holders have demonstrated a high and sufficient level of competence specific to the Special Inspection of firestopping, as required in the International Building Code (2012) article 1704.2.1.

  • Exam Fee:
    $500 (Per Person) Covers the full cost of the initial certification exam.

  • Re-examination Fee:
    $50 if you need to retake the exam.

  • Re-examination fee or CEU application fee (after 3 year certificate expires):
    $150, or $50 for IFC member company employees.
